This Unit of Study is: A Picture of Health. In this reading unit, the students will be studying the works of Chris Van Allsburg (and may use Anthony Browne as well) to learn about the importance of illustrations. The students will study how illustrations support the text and create the mood of the main characters and/or setting.
In this writing unit, the students will apply their research skills to increase their knowledge of body systems. Each student will create a home-based project that will be presented at school in a “Human Body Museum” presentation format to their peers. The students will also continue building their persuasive writing skills by giving reasons and examples to support their thinking.
Reading, Writing, Grammar and Social Studies are embedded in the Unit of Study.
